The Mowhawk Minstrels.
Last night the Public Hall was well filled when the above company, which comprised a troupe of performers from our neighbouring township of Levin made their appearance. They were accompanied by the Levin Brass Band, the whole company coming over in a brake and two other vehicles. On arrival a little after 6 p.m. the bandsmen played right to the end of Mainstreet, heralding the approach of the “ Mowh'awks.” The music brought many of the residents on*, wbo ‘ • ened with evident enjoyment to their selections, the public also having another opportunity of hearing the band outside the hall before the entertainment commenced. The first pari of the entertainment consisted of minstrels in the usual “ chair ” business, and the second part of songs and a humorous stump speech, concluding with a laughable farce. There were eleven members In the minstrel circle, with Mr F. Rollin as interlocutor, and Messrs J. Woodmass and Pattern (hones), and G. Phipps and F. Woodmass (tatnbos), were the corner men. The performers individually acquitted themselves well, and some of their part singing in quartettes and choruses was good. The jokes and several local hits brought forth much applause. The Jady soloist, Miss Finnis, who contributed items in the second part, was heard to much advantage, ana the audience was quick in recognising her ability by recalling her. The whole entertainment was a most creditable one for amateurs, and it is hoped that some future date our visitors will present another programme before a Foxton audience.
