Foxton Borough Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held last night at 7.30 o’clock.
Present—His Worship the Mayor and Crs Symons, Coley, Speirs, Over* end, Gower, Baker and Stiles. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.
Proposed by Cr Speirs, seconded by Cr Symons, That a reply be sent to the Telegraph Department ~ condition of the posts at tne the accident, and ask for a reduction in the amount of the account claimed, also that the old posts be handed over to the Council. Carried. Proposed by Cr Speirs, seconded by Cr Coley, That the drain in front of Mr Carroll’s house be altered in such a manner as to take away the storm water complained of. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Gower, That the L. E. Reade be granted. Carried. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded Cr Stiles, That the ranger’s attention be drawn to Mr T. Bowe’s complaint re pounding his cattle near Elkins’ corner, and that he explain to the Council about the matter. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Coley, seconded by Cr Gower, That the dealing with the sand-drift on the reserve rented by Mr D. Purcell be left in the hands of the Public Works Committee, Carried.
Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Stiles, That the overseer put a six-inch culvert across the Motoa-road near the Borough boundary. Carried, Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Baker, That the accounts as read be passed for payment with the exception of the Post and Telegraph account, and the reports be adopted with the exception of the overseer’s proposed work for the present month, and that same be referred to Public Works Committee. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Stiles, That the Public Works Committee be asked to report upon the drainage of No. 6 Line. .Carried. Proposed by Cr Stiles, seconded by Cr Baker, That the application of W. Gray for a transfer of his lease be granted subject to his getting his lease endorsed by the lessee, and submitted to the Council. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Speirs, seconded by Cr Stiles, That the Council will be pleased to accept the property of the band as a gift, to be retained for the benefit of a band for Foxton, and further that the Council pay the sum of five pounds to the band fund. Carried. Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Baker, That the ranger be asked to name a substitute during his illness. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Overend, seconded by Cr Stiles, That the Town Clerk write to the secretary of the Athletic Club and inform him re the tender received for cycle track and also ask the Club what they intend to do in the matter. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Baker, That the overseer fill in the drain at Wirokino Bridge, and shift the gates to the lower side of the road. Carried.
