Foxton Athletic Club.

ANNUAL MEETING,

The annual general meeting of the above was held in the Racing Club’s office on Thursday night. There was a moderate attendance o£ members, and the Mayor (Mr G. Simpson), occupied the chair. The minutes were read and confirmed, after which the annual bal-ance-sheet and report was read. The report was as follows: — JOINT REPORT OF SECRETARY AND TREASURER. Gentlemen, —We again have the pleasure of presenting you with the annual report and balance-sheet, also of congratulating you on the state of the Club’s funds. The balance-sheet shows a credit balance of £SB 16s rod, £l9 13s 6d of this amount being the proceeds of two concerts, thus showing a profit of /*37 gs 4d on the year’s working. This we consider must be very gratifying to members, considering that the Club was put to the expense of double advertising and other expenses through the gathering being postponed, owing to wet weather. The special train and tram more than paid for themselves, although the balance-sheet shows in the expenditure ‘ special train £27,’ and the receipts ‘ refund special train £24 15s 6d. We wish members to understand that the Club gained to a considerable extent by the extra nominations, acceptances, and gate money. Your committee have had before them the question of improving the cycle track in Victoria Park, and have met the Borough Council with an offer of which amount they have promised to subsidise with £ for £. Plans, etc., have been drawn up and handed to the Council, and that body has promised to start the work forthwith. Unless this work is carried out it is a question whether it will be possible to hold a sports meeting in November next, as the track is in a much worse state than it ever has been.

The donations for the last annual sports, both cash and trophies, surpassed anything since the Club has been in existence, and your committee take this '.opportunity of thanking all those who so kindly assisted in this respect, especially Mr W. Gray, who by his generosity made the cycle racing a special feature of Jthe meeting, and helped to swell the Club’s credit balance considerably. Your secretary also desires to thank you very sincerely for the handsome gold chain, with pendant, inscribed, presented to him during the year, also for the assistance extended to bun by the members and his term of office, but very much regrets being unable to again offer himself for re-election.

Proposed by Mr Simpson, seconded by Mr Healey, That the report and balance sheet as read be adopted. Carried. The election of officers resulted as follows : -Patron, Mr Job Vile, M.H.R.; President, His Worship the Mayor, Mr G. Simpson; Vicepresidents, Messrs G. Gray, S. Hickson, T. Haywood, A. Laing, A.
