Extraordinary Leap.

James Irvine, waiter at the Dive Restaurant, committed an extraordinary act on Tuesday morning at the Cemetery Bridge, Auckland. A little girl saw Irvine stand up on a parapet in the centre of the bridge and deliberately precipitate himself into the air. There was a drop of about 80 feet. Irvine’s fall was somewhat broken by small timber in the ravine, and he was conscious when picked up. He was taken to the hospital, and it was found that no bones were broken. He stated that he had absolutely no recollection of having thrown himself from the bridge. The medical officer found signs of severe internal injuries, and Irvine was operated upon. He is about forty years of| .ag6, and has a wife and two children. For some time past he Has been unwell, suffering from dizziness. He remained at work until Saturday, but did not return on Monday, and his wife informed his employer that she was very anxious about him, owing to his bad health.
