Church Parade.
On Sunday morning the Foxton School Cadets made their first Church Parade, together with the Foxton Brass Band. The band played the cadets to All Saints’ Church, a detachment of the lads marching to S. Mary’s. Mr L. Furrie, assistant-master, wag in command. The boys mustered about 40 strong. The satisfactory appearance of the corps was remarked on with pleasure by the many elders who witnessed the parade. The good marching of the boys, their smart, soldierly appearance in their simple but effective uniform, and their reverent behaviour in Church, were a credit to the school. Mr Furrie received many congratulations on his good work. While we are without an adult volunteer corps in the town it is a matter to be rejoiced at that the elder school boys should be coming on so well in military training and discipline; for the beneficial effects of such training cannot well be exaggerated. It is evident that the masters of the school quite realise this. The Foxton Band provided good music under Bandmaster McKennie. It was a particular pleasure to see the band again in its old honorable place at the bead of the march.
