Manawatu Herald. [Established Aug. 27, 1878.] THURSDAY, JULY 21, 1904. The School.

At last something is to be done towards repairing the Foxton School, or rather making it fit for human habitation. At the monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board, held last Monday evening, a report on the bad state of the school was read, and as a result it was decided to instruct the Building Committee to have certain alterations made. The efforts of our local Committee have at length met with some success and although a new ouilding altogether would have been preferable, yet it is satisfactory that the old structure is to be renovated. The matter should have been attended to long ago, since the building in its present condition is a constant menace to the health of teachers and children. However, the time is ill-chosen for complaint, and if the necessary repairs are effected promptly, there will be no cause for fault finding; The trouble the committee have had to secure this concession makes it ver/ patent that the wants of this end of the district are sadly neglected, and the sooner-Foxton ia represented on the Education Board, the better for the welfare of the town. We are glad to see that the committee have supported this view, and nominated a local resident to fill .the vacancy in therankp off the Board, though it w.ojajd* been, betterhad one of ■tbelrVoWn,; number been selected Tor the purpose. The election should ■come off shortly, and it is to be hoped that the Foxton candidate will be successful in gaining the seat.
