Wk would like to call the attention ot the railway authothe foxton- rities to the highly palmebston dangerous state of the railway, track to Palmerston North. For the greater part of the route the line runs parallel with, and adjacent to, the road, there being no dividing fence between the two. The result is that numbers of stray Cattle wander at will over the line, rendering the passage to Palmerston North positively unsafe. At night time the danger is intern sified, and the engine driver has to exercise considerable caution on the return journey from Palmerston in order to avoid a collision with derelict beasts. Gangers keep the line fairly clear during the day, but at night the track is entirely unprotected. The danger has been constantly recurring, and should have been seen to long ago. We understand that of late the cattle nuisance has been very much in evidence, and ..that on several occasions mishaps have been narrowly averted. Our Palmerston North contemporary, the Man awatu Times, stated in a recent article that the residents of Palmerston were equally interested with the Foxton people in the condition of the railway, and on the strength of this assurance we would ask the Times to do their best to assist us in having this pressing source of danger removed. A cheap wire fence is all that is needed to ensure safety. There are other urgent requirements, bub this is one that should be attended to without delay.
