Obituary.

PAUL KRUGER. , The death is announced of Paul Kruger. His condition was serious since Saturday. His condition waa serious since Saturday. He was suffering from pneumonia and heart disease. His death occurred at Olarens, Switzerland.

(Stepbanus Johannes Paulus was a Cape Colonist byhiwS. When a boy of eleven he, with his parents, took part in the great trek north, which ultimately, resulted in the establishment of the Transvaal Republic. As a youth, Kruger shared in the fierce struggled of the early Transvaalers with the native tribes, being himself a man of gigantic strength and great courage. He Joined the Exeoutiva Council of the Republic and hacame head of the Provisional Government during the war with England in 1883, afterwards becoming President of the new Republic, a position he held for five years. He was subsequently thrice re-elected, and remained at the head of the State throughout the period embraced by the reform agitation, the famous Jamieson raid, and the negotiations which culminated in the Boer ultimatum to Britain which opened the war. After his deposition he fled to Europe, where he remained until the time of his death. Kruger was an ardent Republican, and it was his desire to see established a South African Republic free from, the suzerainty of Great Britain. The late Mr Kruger was 78 years of age.]
