INTERESTING-HISTORICAL NOTES.

TO THE EDITOR OP THE SI AN AW AT U HERALD. ' Sift,— l' was much interested in reading the notes on the fourth page of your issue of Tuesday last 1 It had the effect of correcting me in some. of my preconceived notions on historical subjects. Your statement that Queen Victoria is 74 years of age suggested p.i number of interesting reflections. As she \vas--K)ver.Bi years old When she died, she must -have grown npnsider'ably younger "since her demise, and as she has been dead four years she must have been growing younger at the rate of nearly 2 a year; in other words she has been growing young since her death at a much faster rate than she grew old before it. Another thing which interested me was to note that the Battle of Waterloo was fought on a Friday. Some historians say it was fought on a Sunday, but (although some prejudiced persons are apt to consider both historians and newspapers unreliable) I.am prepared to accept the authority of the Manawatu Herald for this correction in my established historical beliefs. I am, &c,, Enlightened. [We regret to find that we have amongst our readers such simpletons as this correspondent. If the writer of the above had used his wits a little (assuming that he has any, which we have reason to doubt) he would at once have perceived that the notes he refers to had got into our issue of Tuesday last through an incidental mistake of one of our compositors.—Ed. M. Herald.]
