FOXTON v. MOTUITI. Last Saturday Foxton was livened up by the presence of a number of stalwart looking natives, who had journeyed from Motuiti to try conclusions with a team picked to represent Foxton. Punctually at 3 o’clock the game commenced in real earnest, Foxton kicking off against a slight breeze and by fast following up Broad scored near the corner flag; the same player took the kick at goal but failed to increase the score. From this out the play was very mixed, the ball passing from one end of the field to the other without any further score. The forwards were an even lot, but the natives showed to better advantage in the back division, some of their passing being particularly good. Foxton undoubtedly had a great deal of luck in scoring their only try, as the game afterwards proved. It would be hard to pick out any individual player in the Foxton team with the exception of A. Broad and J. Desmond, both these players being very conspicuous. In the Motuiti team Peter Rore and another native played a real good back game, while three others, whose names we were unable to get, played well in the forwards. Mr J. Frew had charge of the whistle and controlled the game in an impartial manner. Mr H. Bradcock and Sam acted as liae umpires.
