ADMIRAL SKRYDLOFF’S RAID.
The Idzumimaru was homeward bound with 108 passengers. The vessel Maikomaru was attacked on the 15th but escaped and reached Tsushima. Admiral Skrydloffs squadron, on the 16th, sank the merchantmen Kawatamaru and Anseimaru between Oku and Kojima Islands. Thirty-seven survivors have reached Yesashi. The Russians transferred the Badomaru's English second mate to the released merchantmen. Seventy-three of the Sadoraaru’s survivors have reached Nagasaki. HEAVY CASUALTIES. Oku reports that already they have buried 1616 Russians at Telesze. The natives state the Russians burned, buried, and carried away many more. Admiral KamimUra has returned to bis base without discovering Admiral Bezabrazoff. The Japanese are using twenty Orlan Bullen’s American six-pounder ball-bearing rifled guns i also, one four-inch cannon, with ball bearings, which secure a forty per cent, greater velocity and penetration range than the old system. The American and British Governments are negotiating for its adoption, The Countess Hayashi’s Japanese widows* fund has reached £16,000, including the Elswick works £IOOO and London Stock Exchange £I2OO.
