THE PHAROS INCIDENT. An inquiry into the Pharos incident at the Christmas meeting of the Taranaki Jockey Club was held lasi night at New Plymouth, when a long sitting took#*place, lasting four hours. The inquiry arose through a jockey, Roberts, the rider of Ranana, owned by Corrigan (racing under name of Mr Whereroa) making charges that the affair was pre-arranged, and that Corrigan was cognisant of the fact. Roberta further alleged that Paltridge, the owner of Pharos at that time, gave him a cheque and cash for £ls to pull his mount. Roberts also alleged that Corrigan gave certain directions regarding the running of Ranana at the Wanganui meeting in March. After hearing very full evidence —in which some startling disclosures were, made—Corrigan, Paltridge, (rider of Toledo) denying allegations in toto—the Committee decided as follows: “ That J. R. Corrigan, 11. Paltridge, and George Roberts, bo warned off and disqualified for life.” It was also resolved, That as there is not sufficient corroborative evidence against Percy Johnston, no further action be taken. O’Connell, the rider of Moturoa, is already under disqualification for two years in connection with the same incident.
