Foxton Debating Society.
A new Debating Society baa come to light in Foxton ; and despite the failures that have attended the efforts of previous Societies, this one has proved a great success. Such an institution is badly needed in the town, and it is but the duty of all residents to assist it as much as they are able. The Society commenced about two and a half months ago, and after a number of successful meetings, it has widened its field of operations, and taken steps to secure the services of Mr A. A. Brown, an American gentleman, who has consented to deliver a lecture entitled “Across the American Continent,” on Tuesday next, the 10th inst., in the Sohoolhouse (See notice in our advertising columns.) Tho Society is doing a good work amongst the young fellows of our town, and it is to be hoped that the residents will show their appreciation of the Society’s endeavours by a large attendance at the Sohoolhouse on Tuesday evening next. Mr Brown, it may be said, is very highly spoken of by the ustralian papers, and local residents should not miss the opportunity of hearing a distinguished lecturer, as it is not often that in thik part of the country we are favoured with a visit from persons of note.
