PORT ARTHUR BOTTLED UP. DEATH PREFERRED TO CAPTURE.
The gang belonging to the disabled warships at Port Arthur have been landed and are being used to strengthen the batteries. Reports received at Tokio state that some of the eight fire ships completely block the fairway. It is officially announced that the Kinshimaru’s officers committed suicide in their cabins, while the soldiers mutually bayonetted one another. The prisoners taken by the cruiser Russia were only sailors and coolies. The Russian ironclad Khrabry stopped the mail express boat Osiris, in the Mediterranean, for two hours and sorted the mails, but the Japanese mails, which were lying at the bottom of the mail room, were untouched.
