A Woodville Sensation.
A SETTLER CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER. A nan named George England, a small farmer st Maharahara, was arrested on Friday morning, and brought before the Court at Woodville on Saturday, charged with attempted double murder. It appears that England, who went to Woodville on Thursday, learned, on returning late that evening, that his wife and a hired man named Thomas Nicholas had gone to some entertainment. They returned between 12 and 1 o’clock, and on their arrival England attempted to strike his wife. Nicholas interfered and held him down while Mrs England got away and went to the house of a neighbour. Nicholas himself left the house shortly after, whereupon England rushed for a gun, and fired at his wife and at Nicholas, one of the shots striking the woman in the leg. Accused was remanded until tomorrow. A piece of string on my finger ! Now what can that be for ? Something I have to remember To fetch to night from the store, Vly wife said she’d die without it.
