Burglary at Palmerston.
GOODS valued at sixty POumS^TOLEN. On Thursday night The' pTem'iS€f3 of Mr L. Giorgi, tobacconist, the Square, were broken into and tobacco and cigarettes valued at £6O were taken away. The burglars entered the shop at the back through one of the windows which they broke, though they previously had endeavoured to effect an entrance through the back door, the panels of which were bored through until an aperture big enough for a hand to turn the key was made. However, the key was not in the door and recourse was then made to the window with the result stated. Nine boxes of tobacco were taken, also loose tobacco and several hundred cigarettes. During the night Constable De Loree, who was on duty, visited the back of the premises twice, and on those occasions everything appeared all right. The burglary is evidently the work of the same gang that entered Messrs Barraud and Abraham’s premises during the past week.—Standard.
