TEN HOURS A DAY.
The Standard’s Tientsin correspondent states that it is proposed that contract under which the Chinese labourers are engaged for the Transvaal shall have currency for three years with the option of renewal. . The passage to and from the Transvaal and food, housing, and medical attendance to be free. A working day to be ten hours, and wages to be twenty-five shillings per month with ' the option of piecework, enabling men to earn fifty shillings. Work on Sundays and Chinese holidays to be optional and reckoned as overtime.
