Manawatu County Council.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held on Wednesday. Present—Crs Wilson (chairman), Clarke, Hammond, Kendall, Robinson and Claris. From the Rangitikei County Council, hoping that the Council would not press a claim for damages to the Ohakea road by hauling timber, as all funds were being expended on protective work.—Decided that payment of the amount involved, £7 10s, be requested. Subsequently intimation was received that payment of the amount had been agreed to. From Jos. Mathers, offering £l2 for the right to out flax on Jones’ Line, and £5 for the flax on the Foxton road. -Latter offer accepted, the former declined.

From J. T. Whyte, asking the Council to attend to the Mt. Robin* son road, which is in a very dangerous state. Overseer, to attend to repairs. From Or Claris, stating he had accepted Shapleaki Bros.’ tender for metalling at 11a per yard. Prom M. Boyle, stating his intentions with regard to his metalling contracts, and asking that sufficient metal should be supplied. From J. Bleakley, Rongotea, complaining of the treatment accorded goods arriving for him by tramway. DEPUTATION, Mr John Stevens waited upon the Council and asked that an exchange of land, indicated on a plan produced, should be effoeted between the Council and Messrs Stevens, Austin and Easton with a view of giving better access than that which now exists to Mr Seifert’s property on the Manawatu at Faiaka, and also for the better reading of the Moutoa estate, recently subdivided. Mr Stevens fully explained all details and was informed that the proposition would bo submitted to Cr Claris, in whose riding the affected land was.

REPORTS. The Treasurer reported the various balances as under General account, dr., £llO4 6a 9d; Loan account, or, £1758 7s Id. Eiding accounts—Sandon Riding, dr., £72 18s 2d; Mt. Stewart, cr., £44 14s 2d ; Waitohi, cr., £54 2s 9d ; Rongot a, cr., £2Bl 19s 6d; Carnarvon, cr., £lO Os 9d; Kawakawa, dr., £1 12s 3d ; Awahou, cr., £231 Os Id. The tramway report showed a credit balance of £lO6 8s 2d for February. Details were supplied of the waggons employed during the mouth in the carriage of metal, of which 1750 yards were carried. On the 9th, owing to alleged negligence on the part of the contractor, one of the waggons ran over the bank of thpit and was damaged to some extent. It was suggested expenses should be debited to the contractor. The line bstwwq Stwson and Eongotea is now

in good condition, and condemned rails below RofJgotea ar«_beja& mplaced. MISCELLANEOUS.

Government will be asked to pay the subsidy of £l5O promised fof the construction of Pyko's road. Leave of absence was granted- Or Masters for the meeting.

After lunch Mr Jno. Stevens was informed that the Council would agree to one of the proposed exchanged roads on condition that the applicants gave an undertaking to form the new road when required. The other piece of road desired to be exchanged had not been visited recently by the councillor for the district, Or Claris, and it was decided to defer a definite reply regarding that portion of land till Cr Claris met Mr Stevens and went over the land. It was understood that the council would, doubtless, agree to the request. It was decided to sue for all outstanding rates without further notice. The meeting then adjourned.
