THE WAR.

The Japanese array is adopting the same route and tactics as in the China Japanese war. The landing occurred 60 miles west of Antung. Admiral Kaniraura’s fleet is bombarding Vladivostok.

It is stated that the Russian squadron quitted 24 hours before the Japanese arrived. Admiral Togo’s detachment has been sent to Port Arthur, the bombardment of which has been renewed.

The Japanese at Cbemulpho detained the Emperor of Korea’s messenger. He is supposed to be the bearer of a letter from the Emperor to M. Pavloff.

Owing to Russia’s bitter semiofficial taunts against America, Pre sident Roosevelt’s executive order enjoining neutrality expressly and earnestly deplores the war and expresses the hope that it will end at the earliest possible moment with the least possible loss to the combatants. It urges further the scrupulous respect of their neighbours, adding :—“ Nowadays all nations are neighbours, and with all man kind we are in friendship.” General Kuropatkin leaves Moscow for the front on Sunday. The Czar, in receiving a deputation of St. Petersburg journalists, said he was glad to see how correctly the press represented the nation’s sentiments of anger against Japan's unfair aggression and treacherous methods.

The Czar’s sister Olga is going to Manchuria to superintend the operations of the Red Cross Society.
