Serious Accident.
A man named George Evans, 55 years of age, and ganger in, charge of a nietalling giitlg !h the ballast pit at Terrace End, overbalanced yesterday morning and fell in front of some metal trucks. Three or four of them passed over him, his right leg being completely severed at the knee, and the toes of his left foot completely srtiashed. His head was also ipjurfed; Shunting operations were proceeding iti the pit at the time of the occurence and no blame is attachable to anyone, the accident being one of those, apparently, inseparable from railway working. Evans wgs released ftohl his position and speedily conveyed to the Hospital where he died last nighb was a married man, his wife residing in Waaganui. „ , The deceased was well known in Foxton, quite recently being in charge of the dredging operations lately carried out at the wharf, and was highly respected by those with whom he came in contact.
