cvinary monthly meeting of the above was? held last night at 7.30 o’clock. Present His Worship the Mayor and Crs J. Symons, S. H, Baker, B. Spelman, Q. ( olcy, J. F. Overend, O. Austin, A. Speirs and B. Gower. The minutes of the last monthly meeting and also the minutes of a special meeting held on Monday, 22nd February, were read and confirmed. The inward correspondence was read.
Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Symons, That this Council desires to record its tegret at the death of the late Mr Thynne, who was the first Mayor of Foxton, and who always took a keen interest in fche affairs of the Borough, and to express their sympathy with Mrs Thynne and family in their bereavement, and that a copy of this resolution be Sent ,to Mrs Thynne. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Bakev, seconded by Cr Gower, That his Worship the Mayor and Crs Symons, G. Coley and O. Austin inspect part of Har-bour-street complained of by Mr W. P. Collins with power to arrange for immediate repairs. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Gower, That the reports as read be adopted, and pay-sheet be passed for,payment. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Gower, That the clerk be instructed to write to the ranger and inform him that complaints are made of the ranger driving stock home instead of to the pound, and inform him that so doing is a breach of duty. Carried. The Council went into committee to consider the applications received for a working overseer and to open tenders.
On resuming the following resolutions were read t - Proposed by Symons, seconded by Or Coley, That Mr Hill be appointed to the position of working overseer to the Borough. As an amendment, the Mayor proposed, and Cr Gower seconded, That Mr F. Hooker be appointed to the position of Borough overseer. The amendment was carried.
Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Gower, Thas the tender of F. Martin be accepted, and that fresh
tenders be called for drains not tenfor. Tenders to be in by Council meet for that date to receive tenders.
The resolution was carried, the Mayor and Crs Speirs voting against the motion. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Gower, That the police be authorised to keep a strict watch for all persons breaking by-laws 65, 66, 67, 68, 69 and 7G, and to make an example of first offenders. Carried. Proposed by Cr Speirs, seconded by Cr Coley, That the Mayor and Town Clerk be empowered to accept the first capable person who offers to clean out the Government drain, the price not to exceed that of last year. Carried. Proposed by Cr Spelman, seconded by Cr Coley, That the daymen be instructed to fence portion of drain in Russell-street near the windmill. Carried. The Mayor retired, and Cr Gower was voted to the chair, when the following resolution was carried : Proposed by Cr Coley, seconded by Cr Speirs, That P. Hennessy and Co, pay at the rate of thirty shillings per annum up to the end of the present year for the site for the coal shed, and ten shillings per annum afterwards, for the position only where the bin stands.
