Mr O. Austin’s Oil Launch.

The launching took place on Saturday at midday of an oil launch, the Paretao, at Mr H. Stacey’s boatshed, Waterloo quay, Wellington. Mias Martelli performed the naming ceremony. The new craft has been built for Mr 0. Austin, by Mr H. Stacey (late Mowatt and Stacey). The length of the vessel is 25ffc overall, beam 6ft 6in, draught aft 2ft: The hull is diagonally built and is of kauri throughout. The inside is panelled and grained in white oak. The seats are upholstered with maroon leather and » forfr and aft awning and aide screens give protection from the weather. A fourhorse power White petrol motor is fitted, which was supplied by Messrs Booth* McDonald and Co., of Christchurch, agents. Sparking is produced by a storage and also a magneto battery. The motor working at 350 revolutions to the minute propels the launch at eight miles an hour. A two-blade reversible propeller is the type employed. The vessel has accommodation for thirty passengers. The Purefcao made a successful trial run on Saturday.
