Foxton Borough Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held last evening at 7.30 o’clock. Present—His Worship the Mayor, and Crs Symons, Gower, Speirs, Baker, Spelman and Stiles,
The minutes of the last ordinary and two special meetings were read and confirmed.
Inward correspondence was read as follows :
From Emma Ashmore, drawing attention to&bad state of road leading
to her property, and trusting something would be done before the bad weather sets in.—Letter held over for overseer to report. From C. F. Spiers, poundkeeper, asking for a better supply of water for impounded stock —The Mayor and Cr Speirs were deputed to see what was required. From J. F. Overend, secretary pro. tern, asking if the Rifle Club that has now been formed could have the use of buildings, etc., at Target Reserve, —Permission granted. From C. Hill, roadman, referring to contract work now being carried out on No.' i Line, and asking for overtime, Overtime granted, and Cr Gower was deputed to see the work carried out satisfactorily. From Thomas Cook, resigning his position as foreman for the Borough. From S. J. Watson, sending cheque for £6 Bs, being 10 per cent of gate money for New Year’s Day sports. From hon, secretary Palmerston N. Brass Band Contest Committee, asking the Council to declare Thursday afternoon, 3rd March, a half-holiday, instead of Wednesday, 2nd March, in order to allow visitors an opportunity of witnessing the grand quickstep competition.—No action taken. From Hankins & Loughnan, re Gray street having been legally closed, and saying that same be advertised in three consecutive issues of the Manawatu Herald.
From Mrs Whitlow, complaining of nightsoil contractor’s work.—Decided to draw contractor’s attention to deficiency. From Valuation Department, sending account for £3 for supplying valuation roll.
Other inward correspondence was read.
The usual reports and accounts were read.
Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Symons, That the reports as read be adopted, and accounts passed for payment. Carried. Proposed by Cr Stiles, seconded by Cr Baker, That the resignation of the foreman of the Council, Mr T. Cook, be accepted. Carried. Proposed by Cr Symons, seconded by Cr Speirs, That the Mayor be authorised to ask the Manawatu County Council to allow their overseer to furnish a plan and specification for formation of No. 2 Line. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr .'tiles, That a special meeting of the Council be held in a fortnight’s time to consider the water supply and lighting of Borough, etc. Carried.
Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Gower, That the clerk be instructed to sue for all outstanding rents, licenses, etc. Tarried.
