Britain’s Maritime Position.
UNEQUAL COMPETITION,
The Liverpool Steamship Owners' Association has adopted a report declaring that statesmen of all parties have realised that the country’s position as a world’s sea-carrier was threatened, because the ship owners were forced to compete on unequal terms with foreigners, even in the United Kingdom. Immediate legislation was imperative. The laws needing alteration were now part of the country’s general fiscal policy, and tariff reformers and freetraders would condemn them.
