Foxton State School.
The State School re-opened on Monday last with an attendance of 172, and the average attendance for the week has reached only 194. Con* sidering that the actual number on the school roll is 265, this is certainly not as it should be. It means simply that over 70 children on the averagehave been absent from school every day during this weel*. The head teacher informs us that nearly all the children in the upper standards have returtied, and we know that there is some.sickness, mainly mumps, among the younger children just now; but the average of 70 absentees out of 265 is far and away too great, and parents whom it may concern had better be warned in time. We are given to understand that the Chairman of the School Committee, having taken all things into consideration, has agreed that no absentee notices tor the pre* sent week be forwarded to the Education Board, but from this time forth the compulsory clauses of the Educa-_ tion Act must, and will be, strictly enforced.
