Foxton Borough Council.
A special meeting of the above was held last night at 7.30 to pass a special order in regard to “lac Noxious Weeds Act," .PresiSitM&s Worship the Mayor, and Crs J. Symons, B. G. Gower, Alex. Speirs, Geo. Stiles and S. H. Baltic* , . , . The following resolution moved by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Gower, and carried That this Council does now by special order adopt the second schedule of "The Noxious Weeds Act, 1900,” and that a special meeting of the Council to confirm this order be held on xatb October next, and that the same be advertised once a week for four weeks in the Manawatu Herald. The ordinary monthly meeting was then held. Minutes of previous meetings were held and confirmed. The correspondence inward and outward, was read. From Minister of Railways, with reference to decking of wharf at Awabon stream, saying that the work could not be undertaken. From same, saying that owing to the neglect of the Council in not haying gravel removed promptly, necessitating an increased cost to the Department, the dredge would cease work on the nth inst., and the dredge returned to Wanganui. ■ From same, granting a request to have two lamps on the Foxton wharf • lit at night continuously. From James King reporting a case of measles. From B, Sptlman, asking that a few loads of metal be placed on the Avenue Road. From* Friendly Societies' Executive, , asking if Victoria Park was available for zst January, 1904, on the usual terms. From Minister of Public Works, in reference to request to have cerfkin obstructions to navigation of the Manawatu River removed, saying they could not accede to the request. From Minister of Railways, refusing the request to have a railway goods shed erected to replace the one burnt. From E. E. Smith, secretary Foxton Sports Club, asking that the band rotunda in the Park be altered so as to be used as a secretary’s office. From J. E. Fulton, sending in a report on the state of Wkokiao Bridge, estimating that £220 would be the cost of repairs, and pointing out that work should be proceeded with without delay. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Gower, That this Council are of opinion that extra train service, Palmerston to Foxton is required, and thkt a copy of this resolution be sent to the Chamber of Commerce, Palmerston North, and suggesting that a conference between the Foxton and Palmerston representatives might be arranged for, say at Foxton. Carried. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Gower, That the Borough overseer be Instructed to cut and grub out all lupins, pitted by the Council from time to time, also all lupins that have grown up from any unknown source, and have not come from adjoining private property. Carried. Proposed by Cr Speirs, seconded by Cr Symons, That the Rate Collector be instructed to sue for all outstanding rates, on and after the first day of October next, and to take one or more names from each letter of the alphabet as they appear in the rate book. Carried, Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Baker, That ths reports as read be adopted, and the accounts be passed for payment, Carried. Proposed by Cr Speirs, seconded by Cr Symons, That Mr Robert Noonan be appointed as Fire Inspector for the Borough. Carried. Proposed by Cr Stiles, seconded by Cr Baker, That the contract for lighting the Borough be cancelled as from Ist October, owing to non-fulfilment of coatract, and that fresh tenders be called io be in by next meeting of Council, 2*th inst., and that a copy of this resolution be sent to the present contractor. Carried. Proposed by Cr Symons, seconded by Cr Gower, That Mr R. Morley’s tender for fencing at Ferry Reserve be accepted** Carried. ■ ■ Proposed by Cr Speirs, seconded by Cr Symons, That the Town Clerk be instructed to proceed to get the Wirokino Bridge repaired, according to “' instructions from Mr Fulton. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Symons, That the Railway Department be asked for a loan of their monkey and derrick or any other necessary plant for the use of the Council for repairs to Wirokino Bridge. Carried. . , , , Proposed by Cr Stiles, seconded by Cr Baker, That in accordance with the request of the Athletic Club for, the use of the band rotunda that they be granted the use of same for secretarial work, and that rotunda be boarded up, specifications to be drawn up for same at once; also that the, partitions be taken down as requested. Tenders to be in at next meeting. Carried. The Council then adjourned.
