(Before Mr A. D. Thomson, S.M.) THIS DAY. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Mr L. E.Raado on behalf of the barj addressed a few words of welcome to Mr A. D. Thompson, S M., on his taking his se*t on the local bench for the first time. Mr E. - Moore joined in Mr Eeade’a welcome to the Magistrate, and hoped that cordial relations would always subsist between the bench and the v bar in Foxton. Mr Thompson thanked the members of the legal profession for their remarks, and hoped that the best relations would always exist between, them not only in court, but in private life. GRAV-STBEEI. The case of the proposal to close Gray-street came before Mr Thompson, 8 M , this morning. Mr J. H. Hankins appeared for the Borough Council, and Mr R. Moore for Mr J. Symons and Mr G. Coley. On the application o! Mr Moore, the case was adjourned for hearing at the next sitting of the S.M Court on 10th October. CRIMINAL. Police v. H. Hecc. Accused was charged with assaulting E. Canavan, and threatening to strike him with an axe. The Bench held the charge proved, and fined him 40s; witnesses’ expenses 12s, or fourteen days’ with hard labor. CHIMNEY ON FIRE. , .
