ALLEGED- ATTEMPTED ' MUEDER. ‘ An extraordinary case of • seriouC assault jtook place at Dannsvirke at five o’clock on Wednesday afternoon. A man named Edward Scarfs, who has been living there for some months, went to the store of Mr French, and, walking into the kitchen, brutally-assaulted Mrs French, who is in delicate health. The woman struggled desperately, and, was knocked down three times. She was braised about the shoulders' and chest, while her upper Up was torn and her clothing torn open fromtho neok« It is stated the man threatened the life of the woman and endeavoured to reach a knife which was lying on the table. ~ - T The children became soarmed by ; the noise and two neighbours rushed in and secured Scarfe, who went to the Police Station quietly.DrEeidMacKay was quickly the spot and attended Mrs On Thursday morning Scarfe ww charged with Attempted murder. and *•-, remanded to Napier for eight, eayfA£ / The medical evidence show* tW»L Mrs French is Buffering severely, item the shock and is unable to apptor. f- It is understood that accused has been persecuting Mrs .
