The Far East.
ACTIVITY OP THE RUSSIAN FORCES. OMINOUS PREPARATIONS.' There is unusual military activity in South Russia. For three weeks high officers from all parts have conferred daily at Odessa. Special manoeuvres have been practised, especially exercise in entrenchment, night attack and firing. Large orders have been given for ammunition, and the commissariat, officers are very active. Managers of the volunteer*fleet have been warned to prepare for the early withdrawal of all vessels from commercial service. Vienna reports that the Sultan has been asked to permit several Russian warships to pass the Dardanelles, bound for the Far East. MANCHURIA. The German newspapers are supporting Russia over the Manchurian question. ARREST OP JOURNALISTS. The Dowager-Empress has begun a crusade against reformers in the South. The Empress has also ordered*the arrest of forty journalists in Shanghai and Pekin, who mildly criticised the Government. LAND IN KOREA. The Korean Government contemplates repurchasing the land which Korea acquired at Ybngampha. after wards leasing it to Russian holders, thus legalising the tenure.
