An American Ship.

The differences between the captain and crew of the American ship Emily Reed, which pat into Lyttelton in distress on July 12th, cam*> before the' Lyttelton Police Court Friday morning. They refused duty when the tow boat had brought the ship in. They, turuedto when promised that the American consul would see them, but it appears from the crew’s evidence that when the consul came the men were not given an opportunity of stating their case, and were locked up in the foreoestle. Their rations there were a biscuit or less each a day. It was stated that the doukeyman had waved a hammer in getting them into the forecastle, and the chief officer had pointed a revolver at the door. ; His Worship dismissed the charges against the captain. The men were convicted and discharged.
