A Faithful Dog.
A pathetic incident showing the faithfulness of a dog has come to light. A telegram from Yarrawonga, published by the Melbourne Age, states that the dead body of an old-age pensioner named Joseph Irwin, 80 years of age, was found in his tent at Bundalong. A fox terrier was guarding the remains, its fore paws resting on the dead man’s chest, while its eyes peered wistfully into his face. When the body was removed to Yarrawonga, some fifteen miles distant, the dog was left with a farmer. A day or - two afterwards the animal came to Yarrawonga,'and searched the town for its old master. Finally, in at outhouse at the rear of. the Royal Mail Hotel, the dog discovered the blanket in which the body was brought to Yarrawonga/ and at once took possession of it. Subsequently a man was sent to remove the blanket, but the dog warned him off go efieckuaUy that ha was obliged to desist from interfering. It was only when a man who knew the dog put in an that the faithful m induced to allow the blanket to be removed.
