Foxton Athletic Sports Club.

THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the above Club was held last night at the Racing Club’s office at 8 o’clock. About 20 members attended, and much enthusiasm was shown throughout the proceedings. The Mayor (Mr T. Westwood), occupied the chair. The minutes were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the New Zealand Times Co., re advertising.— The matter was left in hands of secretary to deal with. The secretary mentioned that Mr W, Gray bad promised a £m prise for

cycling events at the next sports. The joint report of secretary and treasurer , (Messrs Smith and Westwood), was read as follows :-~We have vary great pleasure in presenting a short report at this general meeting of your Club, and would first ot all take this opportunity of congratulating the members on the state of the funds, and also4he.success that attended our last sports meeting, which was held on - November 10th (King’s Birthday). The balance sheet shewing the state ot the Club’s binds waS duly prepared and passed at a general meeting held in this room on Tuesday, 23rd December, 1902. The balance sheet showed a credit balance of £33 15s 3d. This amount shows a profit of £4 i»son the year’s transactions. The sports meeting held on the 10th November last was in every way a success, and but for the threatened bad weather in the morning we think it would have been a record meeting. The special train was not a financial success, as we had to pay a £l2 loss; still we had the entrance money of a good crowd, and also nominations and acceptances from several who came down, and we think the loss on this account should not be more than about £5, and the fact of this small loss should not deter the committee from considering the question of a special train for next sports. During the past year we lost the services of several members by removal, including Messrs MacDermott and Rickard. Mr MacDermott proved himself a most energetic member and officer, and a most fitting social was held under the auspices of several local societies, when several presentations were made, including one from our Club (a gold pencil case and a sil-ver-mounted walking stick.) We have also lost two prominent members by death—we refer to the late Mr Char.es Austin and Mr A. C. Baker. \our secretary desires to thank you very sincerely for the presentation made to him during the year of a very useful pair of field glasses. This being the annual general meeting your secretary bones that you will be able to fill the offices with capable ifien to ensure a successful year. ~ The balance sheet to Dec. sth, 1902, showed that the amount received was AS4 ns Adi'the jftpendifure being £l3O 16s. There have been other monies received and several accounts paid Since the date mentioned, the total amount, now in the bank to the credit of the Club being £24 *9 S 9°. Mr Reade proposed, That the report be adopted as read.. Seconded by Mr Noonan and oarried. The following officers were elected : —Patron. Job Vile, M.H.R.; President, His Worship the Mayor (T.
