Palmerston Winter Show

LARGE ENTRIES. Close upon three quarters of an acre of space will be taken up for the working machinery exhibits at the Palmerston Winter Show, which is to take place on the 28thf&Sth» 30th and 31sfc of this month. _ A - splendid response has been received to the invitation to entries in the Horticultural, Agricultural, Dairying and Farmers’ classes, and it is anticipated that one of the best exhibitions of poultry ever made in the colony will appear at the Winter Show. Entries have cOme from all parts of the Island—Auckland, Taranaki, Wairarapa, and Wellington, and it is evident from the fact that “ amateurs ” are poorly represented, and it is anticipated the quality of the birds shown will be above the average, and competition keen. In all there are roughly 840 entries, many of them constituting whole classes in themselves, apportioned as follows : —Athletic competitions 23, dairy produce (16 classes) 78, horticultural and agricultural products 115, poultry 680. The Wednesday afternoon during the Show is to be devoted to athletic competitions, and for these the following teams have been entered Football (seven a side): Y.M.C.A. (Wanganui), Feilding, Levin; Institute (2), Palmerston, Awahuri, College street Old Boys and' Swainspn & Sevan’s staff. Hockey (five a aide): Palmerston (2), Campbellstreet Old Boys (3), High School (2), Y.M.C.A. (Wanganui), Midland, (3), Horowhenua (2), Pioneers arid Volunteers. Totals —Football, 3 teams; Hockey, 14 teams. The monster half-ton cheese has come to hand and will in itself constitute a feature of the Show. It is filled with coins to the value of £lO, and visitors will have the privilege, : on payment of Is, of trying for a lucky slice. ; Humerbus entertainments for visitors have been arranged in the way of concerts, &c,, to be held in the Exhibition Buildings, and on each evening Brass bands will give performancea.
