Fatal Gun Accident at Mangatainoka.
On Sunday at about 1 p.m., a man named Read, a saddler at Mangatainoka, in company with Sheary the constable at Mangatainoka went out shooting hares. Read asked Sheary what time it was, and Sheary changed the gun from under one arm to the other to look at his watch. The gun, from some cause or other, went off, the full charge of shot being lodged in Read’s thigh, inflicting a bad wound, but not injuring the bone. The injured man was taken to the hospital at Pabiatua, where, after a short time, he collapsed and died before his depositions could be taken The doctor attributes the death to shock. The deceased, who was about 24 years of age, leaves a young.wife'and child.
[The deceased was respected by all who were acquainted with him. He was a brother of Mrs J. Collins, of Foxton, Who received the sad intelligence, of the accident yesterday.]
