Foxton Racing Club.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of*' the above Club was held on Tues-.« day evening at the Club's office ai 8 o’clock. The following members Were present :—Messrs W. G. Robinson, J. R. Whyte (secretary), W. Barber, J. Symons, J, F. Overend, F B.Jenks, , A. Laing, C. E. Robinson,; John Robinson, W. Gray, C. Easton, Alex. Langley, J. Ahern, E. Smith, Q. Hughes, C. Robinson and E. Ball. Through the indisposition of the vice-president (Mr E. S. Thynne), Mr Jenks was voted to the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The annual report of the committee was read as follows: “ Your Committee have pleasure id again submitting for your perusal the Annual Statement and Balance Sheet of the Foxton Racing Club for the year ending 30th June, 1903, and must congratulate members on the success of the past year's transactions. The revenue from nearly nil sources show an increase. The privileges, realised £SO 17s 3d more than the previous year, whilst the iotalisator receipts were £1,013 4s 3d, compared with £675 3s gd for 1902. The total receipts amount to £1,778 9s Bd, including the sum of £ 59 14s 8d carried/ forward from the previous year} and the expenditure £1,433 0s 4<J, the principal items being stakes £940, salaries £134 14s, printing and advertising £70■ 83.3 d, building account' £97 9s gd, improvements aha maintenance £B9 3s yd, leaving a credit for the year of £346 33 4d. The Committee have let a contract to topdress the course with good soil, and to lay down a saw-dust track. This work is expected to be completed towards the end of the month. These improvements we .are sure will be appreciated by horse owners and trainers. .* , ( ■ The stakes for the past year were Increased by £l4O, and seeing the good results from this step your committee would recommend that a substantial increase be made to the stakes at the next meeting. • , Mr Andrews having resigned his position as caretaker to the Club, it will be the duty of the Incoming committee to appoint a successor to him at an early-date. Vour Committee now retire.” t The twenty-first Annual Balance Sheet of the Foxton Racing Club for the year ending 30th June, 1903, was next submitted as follows

Audited and found correct.— Walter Robinson, ' Auditor. F. E. Jenks, Treasurer. Mr W. Gray proposed, and Mr J Symons seconded, That the annual ;. report and balance sheet as read be adopted. Carried The election of officers was next proceeded with, and resulted as follows : President, F. Robinson (re-elected); Vice-president, Dr T. Bennett; Treasurer, F. E. Jenks (re-elected); Timekeeper, A. E. T Nixon (re-elected); Cleric of Scales, J Symons; Clerk of Cohrae, Nap Heta (re-elected); Stewards and Committee, C. Robinson, W. Barber, H.Thynne, A. Laing, E. Smith, W. Robinson and J. P. Overend. Mr A. D. Clemett was elected a member of the Club on the motion of Mr Overend. Mr Symons asked if it was possible that new members could be elected prior to the appointment of

officers, as it may happen in some cases good men would be prevented from holding an office by the present rule. ,4r;The Chairman said they jrere not in a position to alter the present rule. Mr Jenks said the Club had every reason to feel pleased at the position of the Club, and the successful year’s work done. Votes of thanks were passed, and the meeting terminated. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. There was a full attendance of the Committee held after the annual meeting, Mr jenks occupying the chair. The minutes were confirmed. A letter was read from Mr G. Morse re handicapping. The conditions of the duties of caretaker Were discussed, and amended. It was decided to call applications for same at once, applications to close on Friday* 31st inst., at 8 p.m. ■ _ Messrs J. Symons, Laing and were appointed a Course Committee. The following accounts were passed for payment :—Gilmore and Retter (progress), £75 i Nation and Co., 14s} Fsilding Star, 10s; Wanganui Herald, xos 6d; insurance 6s, and rates £3 19s ad. ' The secretary was requested to write to Mr Thynne condoling with him on his illness, and regretting that he was unable to again accept the office of vice-president, and expressing the Club’s appreciation of his valuable services while bolding office* and trusts to hear of his speedy recovery. The committee decided to meet on the course the following morning at 10 o’clock. , The* question of the handicapping was considered, and it was proposed by Mr Laing, seconded by Mr Jenks, That Mr Heory!s services be retained as handicapper. The motion was carried. A vote of thanks to the chair con-; eluded the meeting.
