Dehorning Cattle.
A PROBABLE TEST CASE. The Hamilton correspondent of the Auckland Herald writeslt baa bean an open secret for some time that the police proposed laying an information against the officer of the Agricultural Department charging them with cruelty to animals by dehoming cattle, and on Friday, by arrangement, cattle were operated upon at the experimental farm at Kirikiriroa. There ware present: Messrs E. Clifton, D. Ross, J Lyons, Clayton, J. Ben, Scott: and Alexander, of the Agricultural Department ; also, Messrs T. Slade, J. Gordon, D. Anderson, G. Edgecumbe, Garland A. McDonald, Dr Going, Sergeant Stapleton and Constables Potter and McGlip. Forty-three three-year-old beasts were dehorned in about 50 minutes. When the head is once in position only six seconds are required for the operation.
