The Colonial Ammunition Co.

We have read with interest “Bullseye’s" interesting and instructive article on his visit to the Colonial Ammunition Company’s Works as published in the Christchurch Press on 17th June last. The article and illustrations which cover 4J pages go to show what an important industry the manufacture of ammunition has developed into our midst, and we take this opportunity of congratulating the New Zealand Government in its foresight in encouraging an industry of this kind by placing its orders to.be manufactured within New Zealand instead of outside the colony, thus building up an im : portant item in the defence of the country, and at the same time procuring its ammunition at a price at which it would have been impossible to procure it, unless this industry was in existence. It is now sixteen years since the first cartridges were made in New Zealand, and at that time the number of hands employed was very small, but still it was an initiative which has developed to the industry as shown in the journal mentioned herein. We wish success to i the industry and express our pleasure at the perseverence, energy and skill of those at the head of this business, who have made it (with the support in the shape of orders placed by the New Zealand Government) what it is.
