Kawau.
The island of Kawau, so wellknown from its long occupation by the late Sir George Grey, who introduced many plants and birds, is to be sold next month at Auckland by order of the Supreme Court. As many persons from all colonies have visited this historic and lovely island, the sale will no doubt create wide interest. Prom native ownership the island passed to a Scotch company, who worked the copper mine for some years, but ceased on the breaking out of the Australian gold-diggings. Kawau is stated to contain manganese, sulphur, iron ore, lime-stone, cement stone, and finest terracotta clay for ti iug, pottery, dtc. Coal has also been seen in more than one spot, but no eftort has been made to work it. The island has §n it a considerable number of deer. The area of the Island is between 5000 and 6000 acres; distance from Auckland 20 miles, and one mile a half from the mainland,
