Foxton Borough Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting was held last night at 7.30 o’clock. Present—The Mayor (Or T. Westwood), and Crs J. Symons, Gower, Stiles, Baker, 0. Austin and Overend. The minutes of previous meetings were read and confirmed. Correspondence inward and outward was read. The Inspector of Nnisances reported the Borough in a sanitary state. The overseer made his usual report of work done for the month, and suggested other work to be carried out. The Town Clerk reported that with the accounts presented that night the
Council had expended £706 14s od of the s(feels loan monies, allocated as followsOn No. 1 Line, £ll3 4 s *d has been spent, leaving £666 15s ud still available for No, 1 Line. The amount Set down for No. 2 Line —£54® os od—has not been touched, and the whole of that amount is still available. Of the sum set down for other streets, via., £ 1,142, £593 9s nd has been expended, and the following pleted :-"l\ harf Street, Robinson Street, Jenks Street, Tbynne Street, Hall Street, Whyte Street, Duncan Street, Hulke Street, Ravensworth Place, Easton Street and Eutter Street, and Coley Street formation only, leaving the following streets to be dona: — Hpwan Street, Baker Street, Part No. 6 Line, Spring Street and Cook Street, and completion of Norbiton Road and Coley Street, for which there is available the sum of £548 ros id. . The Treasurer repotted* that since last meeting the sum of £2ll 15s has been paid into the District Fund Account, and £SOO into the Streets Loan Account. The bank balances stood hs follows-.—District,Fund Account, £174 ss; Bridge Loan Account, £63 8s yd ; and the Streets Loan Account, £723 4s, all in credit. Railways,’ £224, Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Baker, That the accounts as read be passed for payment, and the reports as read be adopted. Carried. The Mayor apologised for absence of Councillors Walsh and Speirs. Proposed by Or Austin, seconded by Cr Overend, That the Town Clerk be instructed to procure two more 400 gallon tanks for the windmill, and that the same be erected at once, and” that the windmill and stand be painted. Carried. The Councillors decided to visit different roads on Wednesday at 2.30 p.m. re different matters mentioned in the reports. Proposed by Cr Stiles, seconded by Cr Austin, That the lamp post at Levett’s corner be shifted to corner of Hall and Whyte Streets H Several Councillors mentioned the unsatisfactory manner in which the lighting of the street lamps was carried out, the present contractor being in Auckland. Proposed by Cr Overend, seconded by Cr Austin, That the Traffic Manager of N.Z. Railways be asked if the Department intends to erect steps or some other means of cofivdnience to allow the occupier to come in and out of ganger’s cottage facing Wharf street, Foxton. Carried. Proposed by Cr Gower, seconded by Cr Austin, That the Council accord Mr Vile a hearty vote of thanks for visiting Foxton, and attending to the wants of the Borough. Carried. The Nightsoil Contractor made an application to be allowed to work s weekly service, instead of fortnightlv. After consideration, the Council decided to leave the question in abeyance for the present. Proposed by Cr Symons, seconded by Cr Overend, That the Town Clerk be granted leave of absence for a w<v*k from Friday, roth July, being a part of his usual annual holiday. Proposed by Cr Austin, second d by Cr Stiles, That the Town Clerk b - instructed to purchase a lalrge hanging lamp for the Council Chambers. ,Carried. Proposed by Cr Symons, seconded by Cr Gower, That Mr R. Gray be asked for a price to plant and keep the two triangles in order at per annum. Carried. The Council then adjourned. ... , „
