Railway Accident.
The train from Dannevirke - to Palmersten ran into a slip neat the mouth of the longest tunnel in the Gorge on Thursday evening, with the result that the engine and tender were derailed. The accident occurred at a point where the usual rate of speed is 10 miles an hour, . and there being but a light train on,' the danger of the train going over the enhancement was considerably lessened, though even then the engine Was within a few feet of the edge of the enbankment. The passengers walked over the slip and , were met by a special train from ■ Palmerston, reaching their destination at 11 o’clock, three hours late. A gang of men under Messrs Scott and Wilson, of the the railway staff, at once set to work to clear the lino. The slip was cleared away and the derailed engine and the train reached Palmerston at 6 a.m. thus enabling the usual morning traffic to take place,
