The New Minister.
Colonel Albert Pitt, the new Attorney-General, wee appointed to the Legislative Council in _June, 1899; when Messrs F. H. Fraser and H. Gourley were also appointed. Colonel Pitt is a barrister and solicitor, practising in Nelson, and has frequently appeared incases before the Court of Appeal in Welling'At ton. He has long taken an active part in politics, having at one time represented Nelson in the House of Representatives, .while in the year 1881 he took part with Mr Seddon in the battle connected with the Representation Act a notable episode in the political history of this colony. Colonel Pitt has taken an enthusiastic share in the volunteer movement in this colony. He commanded the New Zealand Contingent which went to London for the celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of the late Queen Victoria. Colonel Pitt was a meiaber of the Police Commission in 1898, and was Chairman of the Federation Commission which took evidence throughout New Zealand and Australia on the federation question.
