Mr Vile, M.H.R., at Foxton.

At the request and invitation of the Foxton Borough Council Mr Job Vile, the member for the district, paid a visit to Foxton on Tuesday last. ... _ In the afternoon Mr Vile visited the wharf and various places. in the town, including the school, with the Mayor (Mr Westwood), and one or two Councillors. In the evening he gave an address upon the Parliamentary visit to the Cook and other islands to 'a fair audience, considering the unpleasant night. The resume given by Mr Vile of the travels of the party, and the description of the various islands visited, and the native manners and customs were most interesting and attentively listened to. g Mr Speirs moved a.hearty vote of thanks to Mr Vile for his address, which was seconded by Mr GoWer and carried by acclamation. With a vote of thanks to the Mayor for presiding, moved by Mr Vile, the meeting closed. After the meeting the .Mayor and councillors and a number of ratepayers remained and interviewed Mr Vile on local matters. The following question were brought under Mr Vile’s notice by the Mayor;—The question of a shod for landing goods from ship’s side; decking a dangerous part of Awahou stream at mouth; lighting by night of the wharf lamps; the erection of two leading lights at the Heads for the purpose of allowing steamers to enter the harbour by. night; the of the old Maori Oemeteryin >the Council ; and last but not least, a subsidy for the erection of the Shannon Bridge. To all of these requirements. Mr Vile promised to attend to, and do his beat to get them acceded to. . Mr Vile during, his stay in Foxton telegraphed to the Minister requesting him to allow the dredge to remain, so that the Council might get the gravel they require for road purposes.
