THE LIGHTING IN FOXTON.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE MANAWATO HEBAtJV Sir, —I wish to call the attention of the Borough Council to the disgraceful way in which the lamps are at present lighted, especially in the Avenue. We have had two very dark nights lately, with, every prospect of another one to-night: On Sunday night there was a feeble glimmer of light in the lamp close to the windmill. The lamp near Levett’s hotel was not lighted, neither the one by the Courthouse. Last night I went home a little after 7 p.ra., the only lamp alight was the one near the Courthouse, but even the lamps at the . end of the Avenue and also in Russellstreet were out. . The person who has charge of the work does not seem to care very much for the convenience of the public; In Mr Guerin’s time it was not always a case of gratification but his method was decidedly an improvement on the present contractor. Thanking you in anticipation; I am, &c„ Lawrence E. Reads.
