Captain Charles Alfred Percy Gardener, described as a native of Victoria, was charged at the Bow street Police Odnrt with abducting a girl named Frances Lesar, aged 17 . . • Prisoner informed the police that he had been long acquainted with the Lesars, and that he foubd the girl on board the steamer Runic when she was sailing from Capetown.' He fruitlessly tried to presuade her to return, and also tried to send, her back from TenerifiFe. . ,
Gardener was remanded, an application for bail being refused. -
