Motor Racing.

On Saturday night three hundred thousand Parisians picnicked'in the. Bois de Boulogne and all the way to Versailles, to witness tha*start of 223 competitors in the Paris to Madrid motor race organised by the automobile clubs of Prance and Spain. Extraordinary interest in the race was shown throughout the southwest districts. Eight fatalities occurred between Paris and Bordeaux—two competitors, three drivers, a soldier, a woman and a child being killed. Many of the spectators met with accidents. One car which overturned ignited and burned an English competitor to death, M. Gabriel, on a 90 h.p. Mous car, reached Bordeaux in shrs 18min. He averaged 65 miles an hour. Occasionally ho travelled at a speed of 100 miles. M. Louis, on a Eenault oar, was second. He averaged 62 miles. Only 68 of the competitors reached Bordeaux. The French and Spanish Governments prohibited the continuance of the race.
