The Murder at Auburn.

The trial of Digby Grand and Henry Jones, indicted for the murder of Police-Constable Long at Auburn on the night of. January 19th, concluded on Tuesday, Both prisoners were found guilty. The jury added a recommendation, to mercy, on the ground that there was no evidence to show who fired the shot which killed Long. When asked if he had anything to say why sentence should not be passed, Grand replied “ I have to tell your Honor to your face that you have conducted this case more like a Crown Prosecutor that a Judge.” Then, naming a certain Judge, Grand continued, “ Where did he die ? Away from his friends and relations, where I hope you will. I will meet you before God, and then you will see whether I am innocent or guilty.” - , , . , Jones told the Judge that he had been prejudiced against the prisoners from the first. Both men were then sentenced to death. '
