Richardson Again.

Another extraordinary scene occured in the proceedings against Richardson, charged with defamatory libel at Auckland on Monday. Refering to Judge Connolly’s strictures upon his method of examing witnesses by accusing, he again charged His Honour with bias.

Judge Connolly said, “ That is a most infamous assertion and a lie. I have never given so much indulgence to any prisoner. All I get is abuse.”

Accused said Judge Connolly had never had such a case before. This was a liquor conspiracy.

His Honour said he would have decency in the Court. Accused said that whenever he got a chance of getting some evidence, it was shut out by every trickery of. the Court. His Honor; “ This is most abominable. Ido not know , why I stand it and will not stand it much longer. I have submitted to your insolence four days. If I have any more of it I will commit you on the spot/’ Accused : “ Very well. You will have a chance if this sort of thing continues.” His Honour: “You are addressing people outside the Court who have nothing to do with the case.” Accused.: “.Haven’t . they. If their mothers' . and* brothers and sisters are ‘being.tilled—” His Honour : “ I order you to be silent except to put proper questions.” . u Accused then proceeded with the examination of Dr Collins with reference to certain patients treated in the hospital.
