Death of Mr Richard Walden.
We very much regret to announce the death of Mr Richard Walderi, which occurred on Sunday morning rather suddenly. The deceased was at bis mill at Moutoa on Saturday when an attack seized him, and he was brought to bis residence on the Norbiton Road when Dr.. Bennett was called la, who pronounced him suffering from heart disease. .. , , The deceased came to this district very many years ago with his parents, who at one time kept a public house and store at Moutoa, which being a landing place for the traffic up and down the Manawatu, was a very busy place. His parents now lie peacefully sleeping in the Foxton Cemetery. .Some years ago Mr Walden removed from Moutoa to the Norbiton Road, and only lately he added considerably to the land surrounding his house. In the early days he married Roka Mahotp, a native lady who died after leaving him a family of three daughters and 4 sons, but of whom one daughter and four sons only survive. In 1886 he married again Miss Sophia Fraser, a sister of Mrs Jenks and Mrs Fred Carter, by whom be has a family of five sons. The deceased was both well-known and popular in the district, and he •arned the character for being mosl scrupulously honest, disliking to owe any man anything, to ensure which he periodically stopped his hemp mm to clear all outstanding accounts off, and to bo assured by his bank balance that bis position was impregnable. He was 58 years of age. . The funeral took place this afternoon, the coffin being taken to All Saints’Church when the Rev. H. r. Wilson read the psalms and a chapter from the Bible, concluding the service at the grave. Mr England played a funeral' march on the procession leaving the Church. The attendance was very large.
