News has been received that five thousand Moorish rebels rushed down the valley threatening the stronghold at BVajana, but were checked by volleys from the defenders. The rebels’ powder supply then exploded. Many ware killed, and the rest withdrew. _ - Advices from Melilla, the Spanish settlement on the north coast of Morocco, state that a projectile fell on Spanish territory during the fight. It is also stated .that the Moorish Pretender, Bu Hamara, vainly tried to secure recognition of his claims by Spain when compelled by Muley Amrain, the Sultan’s uncle, to take refuge at Melilla. Muley Amrain has appealed for reinforcements to prevent Prajana from surrendering to the rebels. The Pretender’s offer of pardon to the defenders of Prajana was refused.
