Development of Ireland.
Mr George Wyndham, Secretary for Ireland, speaking in the House of Commons, stated that Ireland’s equivalent to the grant voted" lor England under the Education' Act would be, according to the popula-. tion basis, £185,000. Part of that sum would be devoted to meeting losses incurred by the flotation of 3f per cent, stock to provide money for land purchase. The bulk of the remainder would be used for the promotion of economic developments. Mr Wyndhara added that LordIveagh, of the well-known Guinness brewing firm, and Sir J. W. Pirrie, chairman of the Belfast shipping firm of Harland and Wolff, were prepared, under the happier circumstances new prevailing, to provide transit facilities in certain test districts If the results proved satisfactory, the 'system would be extended over Ireland The announcement was received with cheers.
